Project Objectives

The “Joyful V Project” aims to enhance the engagement, sense of purpose, and overall well‑being of 50+ volunteers through structured training and service arrangements, while simultaneously improving the social and psychological health of elderly residents in care homes. Grounded in the humanitarian principles of the Red Cross, the project emphasises care, respect, and dignity. The main objectives are as follows:

  1. To cultivate 50+ volunteers who embody Red Cross values

The project provides systematic volunteer training for adults aged 50 and above, enabling them to deliver safe and effective services in residential care settings. Through developing empathy, responsibility, and essential service skills, participants will become compassionate and capable volunteers.

  1. To enhance the quality of life and well‑being of 50+ volunteers

Active involvement in volunteer service strengthens social connections, builds a sense of purpose, and boosts self‑esteem among older adults. Through continuous learning, team interaction, and peer support, volunteers gain a stronger sense of engagement, contributing to healthier and more fulfilling ageing.

  1. To improve the psychological well‑being and social interaction of elderly residents

The project offers volunteer‑led activities for elderly residents in care homes and mental recovery hostels. These activities aim to enhance emotional well‑being, stimulate cognitive ability, and promote social participation. Through consistent and structured engagement, the project helps residents experience greater happiness and connection.

Project Content

The project consists of three major components: volunteer training, enhancement of volunteer well‑being, and psychological support for elderly residents.

  1. Volunteer Training

Approximately 100 volunteers aged 50 or above will receive structured training, including:

  • Red Cross principles and volunteer ethics
  • Basic first aid and disaster preparedness
  • Elderly exercise and fall‑prevention training
  • Social and mental health awareness
  • Service skills and activity design

Upon completion, volunteers will be assigned to serve in various residential care homes.

  1. Enhancing Volunteer Well‑being

Participation in volunteer service itself contributes positively to physical and mental health. The project enhances volunteers’ quality of life by offering regular service opportunities, peer interaction, and a supportive volunteer community—helping them strengthen social engagement, achieve personal growth, and increase life satisfaction.

  1. Supporting the Psychological Health of Elderly Residents

Through companionship and activity‑based engagement, volunteers will help residents participate in a variety of enjoyable and meaningful activities. These interactions support increased social engagement, cognitive stimulation, and the establishment of a more positive and structured daily routine.
