Extreme weather including hot days, rainstorms and tropical cyclones affected Hong Kong heavily in recent years and caused significant destruction to the city. According to the Hong Kong Observatory, rainfall from July to September accounts for more than 80% of the annual total, indicating an increase in the severity and extremity of rainfall.
CMRS will particularly enhance the disaster risk reduction by multi hazard approach. This includes climate risks, with specific emphasis on heat and flooding, as well as fire prevention, which is the most frequently happened hazard in Hong Kong. The project will also aim to raise public awareness of the relationship between nature and climate. It will be customized based on the progress of each community.
