Project Goal:
Enhance community resilience and cohesiveness, strengthening community engagement through voluntary service.
Project Objectives:
1) Enlarge the volunteer network of HKRC;
2) Promote volunteerism of the participants;
3) Enhance participants’ understanding on HKRC humanitarian service and values of the RCRC Movement ;
4) Enhancing family cohesion.
Project Description:
This project targets 50 family volunteer groups, each consisting of at least one main caregiver and one child. A screening exercise will be conducted during recruitment to ensure alignment with programme goals. Participants will engage in a structured programme that begins with 4 face-to-face training sessions (include 1 welcoming session), progressing from foundational to advanced levels: starting with 1) humanitarian education and volunteer fundamentals to help families understand the mission of the HKRC and the role of volunteers; followed by sessions on 2) communication skills and 3) emotional bonding to enhance interpersonal dynamics; and concluding with 4) values in practice-such as generosity, compassion, and responsibility, encouraging families to reflect on how these values can be applied in daily life and volunteer service. Families will then participate in 7 volunteer service activities, co-organized with HKRC service teams, providing opportunities to apply their learning in real-life situations. The concluding programme will be held to celebrate the volunteer team’s annual achievement. It will include interactive activities that help strengthen family bonds and recognize their volunteer journey.
The programme will also involve 2 service partners, NGOs serving ethnic minority communities or persons with disabilities, who will provide service opportunities for family volunteers.
To encourage full participation, families will collect activity stamps for each completed session or service, which can be redeemed for rewards such as HKRC certificate of merit or prize.
The programme will be completed in a celebration event, adventure based training (or other challenging experiential activity) led by qualified trainer. With no mobile phones or digital distractions, families will reconnect in the event and celebrate their journey. Recognition will be given to all participating families for their commitment and growth.
