At present, over 100 armed conflicts are ongoing worldwide, posing threats to civilians and escalating humanitarian crises, underscoring the critical importance of International Humanitarian Law more than ever. To address these challenges, the Hong Kong Red Cross and the International Committee of the Red Cross have been jointly organizing the "Asia-Pacific Red Cross International Humanitarian Law Moot Court Competition" since 2003. Over 1500 law students from over 20 countries/regions in the Asia Pacific have participated in the competition, with the goal of nurturing them into future leaders with a humanitarian outlook.

In this competition, to promote law students’ awareness of humanitarian issues, participating teams conduct court hearings based on hypothetical cases to determine whether certain actions violate the laws of war and whether military commanders should be held criminally responsible for their unlawful conduct.

During Red Cross International Humanitarian Law Moot, in addition to holding over 25 mock trials, there will be Keynote Seminar and Humanitarian Work Career Talk. Law and other local students will have the opportunity not only to deepen their understanding of International Humanitarian Law but also to learn how to join international humanitarian organizations and gain insight into the experiences of frontline workers, with the goal of nurturing them into future leaders with a humanitarian outlook.
